Book review – Life Behind A Steering Wheel by Raghav Kalra

“If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet.”

Rachel Wolchin

Yes, we’ve been to dozens of places and seen the good and the bad sides of travelling. Travelling is not an easy engagement. A lot of times, a feeling of loneliness and doubt surrounds us, making us question if it’s really worth it. Reading books about adventures and on-going road trips always helps by inspiring us in myriad ways. It’s strange how just a few words can change your mood entirely and let you see things from an entirely different frame of reference. In times like these, where travelling has become a perilous task, I decided to pick up a book that quenches my travelling thirst, “Life Behind A Steering Wheel”.

A compelling story of a cruise starting with rising sun each day, for 13 days in a row, encompassing the length and breadth of the nation, exploring its varied colours, cultures, and anonymities, Life behind a steering wheel is an exciting revelation of many experiences, anecdotes, and stories created during these 13 days.

The story is based on the real-life journey of  Raghav, his father and Saksham, their plan to go on a road trip (7000km) via car. My favourite aspect of the trip is the motto of the trip, LOVE AND PEACE IS THE BEST RELIGION. Following precisely this, their journey was featured in various newspapers and social-media articles. The journey has 4 phases, they face highs and lows, but in the end, the trip was worth everything. They embark on a journey of self-discovery with surprising results. The mouth-dropping clicks provide a specific personal connection to their story. This book is a must-read for all the travel enthusiasts who have a keen interest to discover about diversity in the country through the journey of three passionate travellers.
