Every author has a unique story behind the stories they write. In this exclusive interview, we sat down with the author to discuss the inspiration behind the book, the emotional journey of writing it, and the creative process that shaped its characters. From balancing multiple careers to crafting a deeply moving narrative, the conversation offers readers a closer look at the mind behind the pages. Read on as the author shares personal insights, memorable moments, and a glimpse into what lies ahead.
Q1. As someone with experience in acting and modelling, how did you come to pursue writing?
I was a studious child throughout my school years, and early exposure to theatre opened the doors of the literary world for me. Surrounded by writers and stories, I believe that was where storytelling first found a home in my heart.
“It’s fascinating how theatre became the bridge between performance and storytelling.”
Q2. Considering this to be a full-rounded book with several emotions evoked in the reader, what was the writing process like?
The writing process was exhausting. Constant commitments left me little time to sit down and focus, so I decided to take a break—switching off my phone and all the social media, stepping away from social interactions, and fully immersing myself in the work.
“Disconnecting from the outside world to fully embrace the creative process speaks volumes about your commitment to telling the story authentically.”
Q3. Would you rather the readers relate with Devi’s story or take away an important lesson?
I believe it is a combination of both. The story explores experiences that are universally relatable—the loss of identity, the pain of losing a loved one, the longing to be loved, and the struggle to pursue dreams that remain unfulfilled. Everyone encounters these moments at some point in life. One important takeaway is that, no matter what happens, finding the courage to rediscover your best self is always possible.
“Stories become truly memorable when readers not only see themselves in the characters but also walk away feeling inspired to face their own challenges.”
Q4. If this book were to be transformed into a movie, who would you prefer as the cast?
Since I am an actress myself, and I have lived the story while writing it, I think I would be the perfect cast, if not me, then Sanya Malhotra would be perfect.
“Having the author portray the protagonist would certainly add a unique layer of authenticity And Sanya Malhotra’s versatility would undoubtedly make for an exciting choice as well.”
Q5. Without giving any spoilers, what was your favorite aspect of Devi’s life?
She is so kind and generous and innocent.
“Sometimes it’s the quiet qualities like kindness and innocence that leave the deepest impression on readers and make a character unforgettable.”
Q6. Was there anything in the book that was a spontaneous addition and not initially planned?
Bala Prasad, he came into the story in much later drafts.
“It’s always interesting how certain characters seem to arrive unexpectedly and eventually become an essential part of the story.”
Q7. If you could bring a character to life, who would it be and why?
Wonder Woman, I love her physical strength, beauty, speed, everything.
“Wonder Woman has inspired generations with her courage and resilience.”
Q8. About the part that talks about a cataclysmic event that lopsided Devi’s life, how difficult was it for you to write on a numerical scale where 1 is extremely difficult?
It took me several days to finally write that part, especially because I am a very empathetic person. I experienced the emotional turbulence myself, and being emotionally blocked at that point made the process particularly difficult.
“The emotional investment behind those pages is evident and Readers often connect most deeply with scenes that the author has truly felt while writing.”
Q9. If there was one book you would credit for changing your perspective on self what would it be?
Not just one, many. Mostly spiritual books and autobiographies—Ambedkar, APJ Kalam, Autobiography of a Yogi, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.
“That’s an inspiring reading list and Drawing wisdom from both spiritual works and the lives of remarkable individuals often shapes not only a writer’s perspective but also the stories they choose to tell.”
Q10. After creating Devi’s life from such an extensive lens, what does your next project look like? Will it be a continuation of the pattern where you keep it a wholesome account or will you explore other genres?
I have already begun working on another book. It explores the deep, almost sacred bond between two childhood friends, and the pain of a long separation, living in completely different worlds as adults.
“That sounds like another deeply emotional and thought-provoking journey and We look forward to seeing how you continue to explore meaningful human relationships through your writing.”
As our conversation came to an end, one thing became abundantly clear the author’s passion for storytelling is rooted in empathy, lived experiences, and a genuine desire to connect with readers. From the emotional depth of Devi’s journey to the exciting glimpse of an upcoming novel, this interview offers a meaningful look into the creative mind behind the book.
